About

Hasnain Foundation was founded on 21 June 1989 as a Charitable Trust by Dr. Hassanali Mamdani, the late Dr Ahmed Dewji and Mr Riaz Datoo, with the following objects:

“The relief of poverty and famine, the safeguarding of health and for the advancement of education and other purposes anywhere in the world which are charitable according to the Laws of England and Wales.”

Since inception, Hasnain Foundation has supported a wide range of causes of interest to the Trustees, normally delivered in partnership with other registered charities. Subsequent Boards of Trustees have set their own priorities within the charity’s broad objects.

Hasnain Foundation primarily funds organisations and individuals in the UK, where Trustees are able to personally audit projects and activities, and in East Africa, where the Trustees have a personal interest and connection.

Whilst our grant-making supports people of all faiths, cultures and backgrounds, some of our funds, particularly those generated through zakat and khumus, are specifically allocated to the benefit of Muslim communities, and distributed in accordance with Islamic law, as defined by the four Sunni Schools of Thought and Twelver Imami tradition.
